Hampton Rovers hosts local rivals Parkdale Vultures on Saturday at Boss James Reserve in a replay of the 2014 Grand Final. It’s set to be a big day with the annual Women’s Lunch happening prior to the main game.
Following three straight defeats to the top three sides in Premier B, the Rovers will be looking to get back on the winners list and their season back on track. Despite the losses, the performances have been good with plenty of positives coming from each game.
Jesse Donald and Ben Traegar-Haig are expected to return from injury with the Rovers fielding a good side in this round 5 match-up. The last time these two teams met was of course the 2014 Premier C Grand Final in which the Rovers won back-to-back flags, getting up by 27 points. Both teams have one win in 2015 with the Rovers 6th and Vultures 8th on the ladder.
There are three big milestones on Saturday with co-captain Leigh Fletcher and last year’s B&F winner Mark Devereaux playing their 200th club game, as well as the axe Richard Atkins playing his 100th VAFA game. These three players have been instrumental in the success of the club in recent years and deserve all the recognition on Saturday.
The seniors commence at 2pm with the Reserves at 11:40am. Live scores of the main game are available on the Rovers website and mobile site and you can also get updates throughout the day on Twitter (@HRAFC), Facebook and photos on Instagram.
Commencing at 12 midday is the annual Hampton Rovers Women’s Lunch. This is always a big one and it’s not too late to book your spot. The cost is $30 per head. This year we’re supporting Disability Sport & Recreation with Mel Adams as guest speaker. For all the details and to RSVP – click here >
Kicking-off the action on Saturday at 9:20am is the Thirds who are also playing Parkdale Vultures. Due to a special Mother’s Day Auskick session at the Boss, this game is being played down the road at Castlefield Reserve. Over the off-season the ground has been resurfaced and is in magnificent condition. The Thirds have a wealth of players and are looking to post their first win of the year. We encourage all supporters to get down to Ludstone Street to cheer on the boys.
Also on Saturday, the Under 19s make the trip over the West Gate to face Williamstown CYMS. Following their first defeat of the season, the young Rovers will be looking to get back on the winners list.
Following the seniors game at the Boss, we welcome all supporters and parents into the social rooms where the bar will be open and match awards presented at around 5:30pm.
