Seniors

Preview: Rovers v SKOBs

Hampton Rovers face another big test on Saturday, taking on one of the Premier B flag favourites St Kevin’s Old Boys away at TH King Oval. Meanwhile the U19s host Ormond in the Grand Final replay at Boss James and the Thirds face Old Ivanhoe away.

The Rovers have suffered two straight losses after a big first-round win, going down to the two sides relegated from Premier section – St Bedes/Mentone and Old Brighton. It gets no easier on Saturday facing St Kevin’s who’ve recruited well (including ex-AFL players Salopek, Gilham and Gysberts) and have great depth. They are unbeaten and sit equal-top with Old Brighton with SBMT third. Hampton are currently sixth.

Jesse Lovig and Jay Dillon are expected to return from injury while Sam Clements returns to the seniors and Lachie Cairns and Ryan Fogarty have been promoted after good early season form in the Under 19s. The Rovers have been more than competitive against the top sides and are ready for another challenge on Saturday in what’s expected to be fine conditions.

Get along and show your support in this big game. TH King Oval is located on High Street in Glen Iris – alongside the Monash Freeway. The Seniors commence at 2:00pm and Reserves 11:40am.

Live Scores of the main game (and all senior VAFA games) are available on the Hampton Rovers website and mobile site (click here) as well as updates all day on Twitter (@HRAFC) & Instagram (hamptonrovers). Don’t forget to follow us on Facebook too!

The undefeated Under 19s have a huge game, taking on arch rivals Ormond in the Grand Final replay at Boss James Reserve, commencing at 2:00pm. The boys have been in outstanding form and remain the only unbeaten side in U19 section 3. If you can’t make it to the seniors, make sure you get along to cheer the young Rovers. We do need some helpers – time keeper, goal umpire and boundary umpire. Games can’t go ahead without them so if you can lend a hand that would be appreciated, either speak to Johnny or get along early.

The Thirds take on Old Ivanhoe away at Chelsworth Park (oval 2) commencing at 12 midday. There are spots available for anyone keen for a run – get in touch with Seb Wright (0424401850) or Mick Freedman (0432598321).
