All the preparation is done and this Saturday, the Seniors face Parkdale Vultures in the Premier C Grand Final while the U19s get proceedings underway against Ormond, both at Trevor Barker Oval.
A huge crowd is expected to descend on the Sandringham VFL ground and the club strongly encourages everyone involved in the Rovers to get along in big numbers, in your green & gold, and support both teams as they chase premiership success.
The Seniors have had a remarkable season after winning the premiership last year. A 14-4 record during the home & away season and a big semi final win over minor-premiers Marcellin has put the club in a position to claim back-to-back senior flags for the first time since 1946-47.
Parkdale Vultures are Saturday’s opposition and they’ve finished the year strongly and will be no easy task in the season decider. The two times each side has met in 2014, the home side has won on each occasion. Hampton has won their past eight matches and will be looking to win their third-straight game at Trevor Barker Oval, a ground the players are well familiar with after training on the new deck over the past few weeks.
A big crowd was in attendance Thursday evening at the club to enjoy a drink, have dinner and hear the teams. With a full list to choose from, there were plenty of selection headaches for the coaching staff and Guy Martyn announced a couple of changes from the victorious semi final side to line up in the big game.
The big game gets underway at 2:30pm. Entry is $15 for adults, $10 concession, children/pensioners free. The Rovers will be in the home rooms for both games (grandstand at the southern end) and the club encourages supporters to gather at that end of the ground.
The Under 19s have also made the season-decider. After being 3-6 at the mid-point of the season, they’ve won their past 11 matches to cruise into the Grand Final against arch-rivals Ormond. After defeating De La Salle in the semi and steamrolling Oakleigh in the prelim, the young Rovers face a tough task against Ormond in the big one.
As Guy Martyn did, U19s coach John Cesario also needed to make some tough decisions at the selection table with such strong numbers pressing to make it into the team.
The U19s kick-off at 9:30am and the club encourages everyone to get along for the start of the match and cheer the boys on.
Between the two games, the Roverians are hosting a function open to all Rovers supporters at 32 Bridge St in Hampton – just a 10 minute walk from Trevor Barker Oval. It’s $20 entry – includes drinks & BBQ, free for ladies & U19 players. There will be Hampton Rovers merchandise available for sale including scarfs and polo’s – make sure you’re in green & gold for the game! 12noon – 2pm, everyone welcome!
Following the Seniors match, everyone is welcome back to Boss James Reserve. Further details to follow. During half time, keep an eye out for Hampton Rovers Auskick players who’ll play in the middle of Trevor Barker Oval.
