Hampton Rovers host PEGS at Boss James Reserve on Saturday in a huge game that will feature Zebras captain Adam Cockie making his debut for the club.
The Rovers have hit good form with wins against ladder-leaders Marcellin and last week Peninsula Old Boys away from home. Currently equal-second on the ladder with Monash, Saturday’s visitors are just a game behind on eight wins so a victory is vital to create a gap with four rounds remaining.
Last time they met in round four at Keilor Park, the Rovers had one of their most disappointing performances of the season, going down by ten goals in miserable conditions. However only 11 players that took the field that day will line up on Saturday and there are three changes from last week’s side with two key senior players returning from injury.
The 50th player to run out for the Seniors in 2014 is Sandringham Zebras captain Adam Cockie. The midfielder trained well Thursday night and Rovers supporters are looking forward to seeing him don the green & gold on Saturday. Adam played seven AFL matches for the West Coast Eagles in 2009 before returning to Subiaco in 2011 and transitioning to the VFL with Sandringham in 2012 where he won the best & fairest last season and represented the state.

Adam’s appearance for the Rovers follows the formal announcement during the week of an official partnership between the Hampton Rovers and Sandringham Zebras. Many players both current and former have played footy at both clubs including Luke Verma who made his Zebras senior debut last weekend. To read more about the alignment, click here.
The club is recognising its link with the VFL club with a special joint luncheon with the Sandringham Zebras prior to the main game. It’s looking like being a big one with close to 100 people already booked in. Limited spots remain and can be booked through Gary Nash on gnash@jte.com.au or 0407 313 054. The lunch commences at 12 midday and costs $30 per head or you can still purchase a club membership.
The Seniors kick-off at 2:00pm at Boss James Reserve on Saturday with the Reserves at 11:40am. It promises to be a big home game and we encourage all supporters along as the Rovers charge toward the VAFA Premier C finals.
If you can’t make it to the game, you can keep up-to-date with the live scores here and on the mobile site (m.hamptonrovers.com.au), updates & photos on Twitter (@HRAFC) and photos on Instagram (hamptonrovers).
Also on Saturday, the Thirds travel to Marcellin and will be looking to get another win against them. There is a bus leaving Boss James Reserve at 9:30am for the 11:40am game.
The Under 19’s who’ve won their past four matches take on Collegians in a tough game at Harry Trott Oval, Albert Park commencing at 11:40am.
Earlier in the day, the senior playing group will be involved in running the Auskick program at Boss James Reserve, sharing tips with the stars of tomorrow, running drills and assisting during the grid games. There will be Auskick tables at the luncheon and also Auskick matches during half time of the Seniors game.
Following the matches, we welcome everyone back to Boss James Reserve where the bar will be open once the seniors match wraps up. Match awards will be held at around 5:30pm.
