Hampton Rovers captain Leigh Fletcher has been named captain of the VAFA Premier B-D4 representative side to face AFL Victoria Country No. 2 in Geelong on Saturday.
Fletch was vice captain of the same side last year and has previously represented the Big V on three occasions.
“I’m extremely proud and privileged to lead the Big V in tomorrow’s clash against Vic Country. We’ve got a super talented & dangerous team, which is complimented by our coach Brett Voss and his coaching staff. I’m looking forward to the challenge” the skipper told hamptonrovers.com.au.
The Vice Captains are two Big V veterans in David Boundy (Old Paradians) and Ben Phibbs (Mazenod).
The squad of 22 features players from 16 clubs from Premier B- Division 3, with Mazenod and Old Haileybury both containing the most representation with three players each.
The Premier B – Division 4 side will again be led by senior coach Brett Voss who told VAFA TV that he was far better prepared for the match this year compared to last year where he only took on the role at late notice.
“I do feel more prepared, we have put a big emphasis on squad selection and we have a really strong squad across the board” said Voss.
Last year’s one point loss was the closest the VAFA Premier B – Division 4 side had ever got to the Country No 2 team and the hopes are they can get a first win on Saturday.
The game will commence at 1.45pm at St Albans Reserve in Geelong, immediately following the match between the VAFA U19s and the AFL Vic Country U19s.
