At Saturday’s President’s Luncheon prior to the home game against Marcellin, the Hampton Rovers Football Club recognised many of the 50 Year Members who were in attendance.
Many remain active around the club, either in an official capacity or by attending matches and functions.
The following were mentioned on the day by MC Don Scarlett:
Clyde Clarke: Joined 1957, played 165 games, served as Treasurer, general committee and club delegate to the VAFA.
Milton Beattie: Joined 1955, played 265 games, Captain of reserves side and played in 3 reserves flags in the 60/70’s, ran the club lunches and served on General Committee.
Richard Prideaux: Joined 1960, played 170 games, umpired 100+ reserves games and was an umpire for the VAFA up to B grade.
Max Grimmer: Joined 1955, played 208 games, served as Vice President, VAFA delegate, team manager, awarded the VAFA certificate of merit in 1992, Best Clubman award, remains on the senior committee to this day.
Peter Wolfe: Joined in 1964, played 212 games, club captain 1970-71, B&F winner 1969, club treasurer for 9 years, awarded the VAFA certificate of merit in 1999, currently involved in the running of the Roverians group.
Gordon McGregor: Joined 1959, played 100 games, U19 coach 1970/71, coached U19 flag in 1970, senior coach 1972-77 then again in 1980-83, President 1987/88, served as VAFA State selector and won the VAFA certificate of merit in 1989. Passed in 2010.
Don McGregor: Joined in 1961, played 90 games, U19 coach 67-69, President 1977/78, general committee for 10 years.
John Macnish: Joined 1964, played 220 games, delegate to the VAFA, club press correspondent to the Amateur Record, team manager firsts 3 years, U17’s 3 years, Vice-Captain Seniors and has won best clubman award.
As well as the gentlemen above the club also acknowledges the 50 year membership and huge contribution to our club of the following Ladies: Sue Anderson, Gailene Combe, Wendy Clark, Joyce Hammond and Margaret McGregor, all these ladies are still attending the club for our luncheons on a regular basis.
The club is lucky and honoured to have such a great supporter base and we appreciate the ongoing support. We welcome other past members to the club any time with home game luncheons the perfect opportunity to stay in touch.
