Hampton-Oakleigh rivalry set for next chapter

Hampton Rovers make the short trip to WA Scammell Reserve on Saturday to take on rivals Oakleigh and will be looking for a win following three consecutive losses.

It’s a rare away triple-header with the Seniors, Reserves and Under 19s all playing at the North Road ground with the 19s getting the action underway at 9:20am.

After a promising start to the Premier C season, the Rovers have lose their past three (PEGS, Peninsula and Monash Blues). There were more positives in last week’s eight-point loss to the Blues but more improvement is needed as Hampton searches for a win to get their season back on track.

There are two changes to the side including the return of Richard Atkins for his first game in the seniors since last year’s Grand Final.

We need Hampton Rovers supporters to get along in big numbers and help get the players over the line in this must-win game. Following the Under 19’s, the Reserves kick-off at 11:40am and the Seniors at 2:00pm.

If you can’t make it to the game, you can keep up-to-date with the live scores here and on the mobile site (, updates & photos on Twitter (@HRAFC) and photos on Instagram (hamptonrovers).

The Thirds are at Boss James Reserve playing Old Ivanhoe commencing at 11:40am. Numbers are strong and the coach is confident of a strong showing. If you’re able to assist in any way (goal umpire etc), please get in touch with Seb Wright or get along on the day.

There will be a bit going on at the club Saturday evening and we welcome everyone back from about 6pm. All players have been asked to make a special effort to drop in. The bar will be open and footy on TV.

– Congratulations to Lachlan Wheeler who’ll play his 250th club and VAFA game when he runs out for the Ressies on Saturday. Lachie first played for the club in 1999 and continues to give his all on and off the field. He’s been involved on the committee and was awarded Life Membership last year.
– Also in the Reserves, Brendan Culvenor will play his 100th club game. Brendan first played in 2006 playing 40 junior games before moving up to the U19s and now the seniors/reserves.
