Rovers ready for round one

Hampton Rovers kick-off their 2014 campaign against Parkdale Vultures on Saturday as part of a big triple-header at Boss James Reserve involving the seniors, reserves and thirds.

The Rovers will officially signal the start of the season by unfurling the 2013 premiership flag prior to the main game with the club giving the honour to premiership player Anton Duddy.

Round one seems to have come around ever so quickly. It’s been a strong pre-season for the club, there’s been a very healthy number of incoming players – especially talented youngsters, while the facilities have been refreshed at Boss James Reserve and all is in readiness for a big year.

The seniors go into the game with eight changes from the side that won the Grand Final last year. Some older heads have decided to hang up the boots (for the moment anyway) and they’ve been replaced by some quality players who’ll no doubt step up and contribute to the team.

A local side in Parkdale Vultures will ensure a decent-sized crowd will be in attendance at David Street and we encourage all Rovers supporters to get along and show their support as the season gets underway.

The Thirds will get the ball rolling at 9:20am when they take on Old Haileybury. This year the club is participating in the Premier C Thirds competition which is a positive move. Numbers are looking good and coach Sebastian Wright is confident of a positive year for the side.

The Reserves will follow at 11:40am under new coach Steven Kidd and newly appointed captain Matty Powell. The main game will kick-off at 2:00pm.

Live scores will be available of the seniors game. You can access these via the Rovers website, on your phone via the Rovers mobile site ( or on Twitter (@HRAFC).

Final lunch bookings are now being taken. We welcome everyone along to enjoy a quality meal prior to the big game. The cost is $30 with drinks available at bar prices. Hear from the coach Guy Martyn and president Matthew Gray on what’s in store for 2014. To reserve your spot, contact Gary Nash on or 0407 313 054. View full details >
