Hampton Rovers played their final practice match on Saturday, defeating Mordialloc. The countdown is now on to round one with the season launch this Friday night and round one Saturday-week.
The Rovers still had plenty missing primarily due to cricket commitments and it was a very young side that took on the SFL side. It was a solid hit-out for the boys on a great surface at Ben Kavanagh Reserve.
Trailing all day, the Rovers had a solid final term with the breeze, kicking the last goal on the siren to get up by a point. Both teams played hard all day and it was an intense match which is great preparation for the season proper. While there’s still plenty of room for improvement, things are progressing well.
In the earlier game, the reserves went down by a couple of goals while an understrength u19s were outclassed by a strong Whitefriars outfit.
As of this week, training moves to Tuesday’s and Thursday’s – 6pm at Boss James Reserve. On Thursday evening, there will be an intra-club practice match to give those players that haven’t had an opportunity to play in the practice matches have a run.
There are no games this coming weekend however the 2014 Hampton Rovers Season Launch will be held on Friday evening at S6 at Station Pier, Port Melbourne. This event is compulsory for all senior players and we encourage everyone along for what promised to be a great night to kick-start the 2014 season. Then Saturday-week, the 2014 VAFA season kicks off with Hampton Rovers unfurling the premiership flag and hosting Parkdale Vultures at Boss James Reserve. You can book now for the opening home game luncheon of the year.
