Rovers have first practice hit-out

The Rovers had their first practice match of the year on Saturday and had a good hit-out against Premier C opposition Peninsula Old Boys at Parkdale Secondary College.

After the opposition withdrew last Saturday, the young Rovers side finally had some opponents to go up against. With a number of players still missing due to various engagements, it was a particularly young Hampton side with even some U16 players taking the field.

In trying conditions on a hard surface, the Rovers kicked with the strong six-goal wind in the first and kicked the first five majors of the game without reply. The visitors then kicked a goal against the wind – that would prove to be the only score of the day at the northern end. Up by 34 at the last change, the wind only seemed to increase and POBs belted home 8 goals to snatch the game.

It was a good run for the boys however and it was good to see so many new faces across the three teams, as well as a familiar returning name in Paul Adams.

Next week, the Reserves and Seniors will again be in action when they take on SFL side Mordialloc at Ben Kavanagh Reserve which normally provides a fantastic playing surface. A number of players will still be unavailable due to cricket Grand Finals and the club wishes them well in those matches. Another practice game for the U19s will be confirmed shortly.

The 2014 season kicks-off on Saturday 5th April at Boss James Reserve when the Rovers unfurl the premiership flag ahead of taking on the Parkdale Vultures.
