First hit-out for Rovers, SMDs next up

Hampton Rovers played their opening practice match of 2013 on Saturday with a good hit-out against Peninsula Old Boys. Next up is South Melbourne Districts this Sunday at Mentone Grammar Playing Fields.

The first practice match of the year is usually a scrappy affair and that was definitely the case at Mt. Martha on Saturday with the Premier C section opponents controlling the bulk of the game.

The wet and windy conditions didn’t help as a rusty Rovers side kicked 2.12 and went down by 34 points. Hampton were without a host of big names including Corp, Pinto, Duddy, Burggraaff and Verlin.

Despite the result, it was good to finally get some match practice and the boys will be keen to step it up at training and look ahead to the next two practice games before the season proper gets underway. A special thanks to the good number of supporters that made the long trip.

This Sunday, the Hampton Rovers take on South Melbourne Districts at the Mentone Grammar Playing Fields (Oval 2), Springvale Road, Keysborough.

A combined Reserves/U19s side will play a six-quarter game commencing at 9:00am, followed by the Seniors at 11:45am.
