DraftStar the AFLs official high performance partner, Global Sports Solutions and the Australian College of Sports Development are offering young people aged 15 years and over the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of AFL coaching from well known industry experts, in a hands on face to face program spread over 8 months.
The program has been created as DraftStar and Global Sports Solutions identified there are a range of programs available for young people to become better footballers; however there are no AFL based programs available which are aimed at young people that wish to be involved in other areas of the sport, outside of playing.
The programs are able to be undertaken by everybody, regardless of gender, body type, background or sporting ability, ensuring that the program embraces the entire football family.
Community football cannot be sustained unless we have people wishing to be involved in all elements of the sport; this includes coaching, umpiring, training and administration.
The program will not only give young people the opportunity to further their skills and their understanding of particular areas of sport, but will also assist local clubs by ensuring that the next generation of people will be equipped with the skills that will see that the club and the sport is run professionally and sustainably into the future.
Throughout the course, the students cover a range of topics including;
- Leadership
- Teaching Fundamental Skills
- Nutrition
- Managing a Competition or Event
- Injury Prevention
- Applying Rules and Regulations to Games and Competitions
- The Legal Rules and Ethical Responsibilities of Coaching
- First Aid
At the successful completion of the course, students are awarded with;
- Certificate II in Sport (Coaching)
- Level 1 AFL Youth Coaching Accreditation
- Working with Children Check
- First Aid Certificate
- Concussion Management Certificate
In order for students to undertake the course, they need to register their details on the DraftStar website (www.draftstar.com.au/certificate2) and attend an Information/Enrolment evening.
The Information/Enrolment evening will be held at the Hampton Rovers Football Club (cnr David St & Bluff Rd, Hampton) on Wednesday the 16th May from 6:00pm. Everyone in the community is welcome.
The program is valued at $3,600, which is fully funded by the Victorian Government for students who sign up prior to June 30. With recent changes to the state budget, students who sign up from July 1 will not be eligible for full funding.
