Rovers go down at Essendon

The Hampton Rovers were stuck with St Bernards in the first half but were overrun in the second, eventually going down by 12 goals at Essendon on Saturday.

The home side kicked the opening goal of the game and the Rovers through Josh Verlin were quick to reply. However it was the snowdogs who held the upper hand, holding a five goal to two lead at the first break.

The game stepped up a notch in the second stanza and the Rovers were playing the footy they’re capable of, kicking the first three goals before St Bernards steadied with one of their own. Another two goals saw Hampton hit the lead for the first, and only, time in the game. The home side closed the term with another four and at half time they led by 20 points.

The second half was all St Bernards and they went on to kick 12 goals to the Rovers three, cruising to a 73-point victory.

Ed Turner, Guy Martyn and Josh Verlin each kicked three goals, while best players included Gary Carr, Alex Woltering, Mark Devereaux and Cameron Sharp. Congratulations to Stuey Burggraaff who played his 200th club game for the Rovers.
