Rovers v St Kevins Preview

Footy is back! The VAFA gets underway this weekend and the Hampton Rovers open the Premier B season hosting St Kevins at Boss James Reserve.

The Rovers have had an exhaustive pre-season under new coach Russell Barnes and following four practice games, everyone is ready to play for premiership points.

Gary Carr was re-appointed as senior captain for 2011 while four vice-captains were announced: Daniel Corp, Mark Devereaux, Leigh Fletcher and Guy Martyn. Read the full story here.

It’s a new-look Rovers side which heads into Round 1, with a few familiar faces missing due to departures and retirement. Overall numbers have been super-strong with a number of handy recruits and returning players to the club.

While the Rovers dramatic win in the final round last year over St Kevins must be forgotten now, no doubt it’ll still be fresh in the visitors minds. They’re always a strong side and it’s a tough first-up encounter for the Rovers.

Melbourne’s perfect weather is set to continue and it could reach 27 degrees on Saturday. A big crowd is expected and we welcome all members, family and supporters  to get down for what promises to be a cracker of a game.

The Seniors game commences at 2:00pm with the Reserves at 11:40am.

Last-minute bookings are now being taken for the pre-match President’s Luncheon. Enjoy the full Rovers match-day experience! Click Here for full details.

New 2011 Hampton Rovers memberships will be available on the day – see the Bar for details. You can also purchase online now. Click Here for details.

Live scores will be provided at the quarter breaks through the Rovers Twitter: www.twitter.com/HRAFC

Meanwhile the Under 19’s also kick-off their season, taking on Old Mentonians away at the Mentone Grammar Playing Fields in Keysborough (Springvale Road). All support will be greatly appreciated. The Thirds have a bye this weekend and play Ajax next week at home.

The Rovers Bar will be opened from the final siren until late with all welcome to stay back for a drink.
