2010 U19 Season Report

With a promotion into South 1, the year was always going to present its challenges. With a number of key players moving into the seniors and a few others having a year off, the team was considerably young and probably not balanced enough with physically ready players to compete against some of the school boy sides we faced. However, this didn’t stop the boys from putting in every week on and off the field.

Two wins and one draw could have easily been 4-5 wins, which would have been a fair representation of where our side was at.

What pleased me the most was that come round 18 we still had a full list to choose from and no one threw in the towel because it was a tough season, which is a credit to themselves as individuals.

I was wrapped that Tom Youl was able to get a crack at senior level and by years end to see Richard Atkins playing defence in the seniors, looking like he had been for 10 years, was very satisfying!

I’d like to thank all the players that took the field in 2010, especially to the few u/17s that continually put their hand up to play on the Saturday…

To the leaders – Jack Baxter (Captain), Tom Youl and Chris Britton (Vice-Captains), all of you did a great job in a very tough year!

Thank you to my helpers;
–      Mick Dove for again completing the running duties, his enthusiasm for the job was great!
–      Mark Britton as Team Manager, a thankless job, but very much appreciated
–      Roxanne Britton, Jim/Sonya Hoban for filling in for Mark and or doing the small jobs on game day… a big thank you!
–      Kam Atkins for his goal umpiring duties!
–      Rachael, Kevin and  Frogga for their training duties mid-week and on Saturday’s

Finally, a big thanks to the support of the Senior Coach Matty Robbins, it was great learning off you and I look forward to you being a part of the Rovers in the near future. Paul Curry for his advice throughout the year…Also the Senior Committee – Jim Westhead, Cam and Jenny Voss, Paul Pavlou and the rest of the committee members, a big thanks for your support as always during the season.

Bring on 2011 – Go Rovers!
