Woods 200 as Rovers host Old Essendon

Gerrard Woods plays his 200th senior VAFA game for the club this Saturday when the Hampton Rovers take on Old Essendon in a must-win game at Boss James Reserve.

Old Essendon have had a disappointing season after being relegated from A Section last year, winning just the one game. The two teams met in Round One with the Rovers getting up by 28 points. After a disappointing outing last week, the Rovers are fully focused on the task ahead and are fired up for a big performance this Saturday to return to the winners list and start moving their way back up the ladder. Despite sitting in eighth position, the Rovers are just two wins off top spot.

The ever-reliable Gerrard Woods has been a rock in defence for many years now and he returns to the fold this weekend following a couple of weeks in South Africa. Gerrard made his debut for the Rovers in 1996 and played 32 junior games for the green and gold. He has racked up 199 senior games including nine games in 2010, of which the last seven were in the seniors after an interrupted pre-season saw him start the year in the reserves.

200 game milestones don’t come along often and it’s great to see Woodsy reach this magnificent milestone this weekend, in front of the Rovers faithful at Boss James Reserve.

Final bookings are now being taken for the pre-game Luncheon. Just $25 per head – click here for all the details.

The Seniors get underway at 2:00pm with the Reserves at 11:40am. Live Scores are available by following @HRAFC on Twitter. The Bar will be open from the final siren until late and all supporters are welcome to stay back.

Please note the change of fixture details for the Thirds and Under 19’s. The Under 19’s game vs St Kevins has been moved from TH King Oval to St Kevins College and will now start at 9:30am.
