It is with great regret we advise members of the Hampton Rovers AFC and followers of the VAFA that long time clubman Gordon McGregor passed away Friday morning peacefully with his family by his side.

Gordon has been an instrumental part of the Hampton Rovers AFC over a 40-50 year period. Our club has only bestowed the honour of Hall of Fame to 13 people in our 80 year history, of which Gordon was one.

He played 63 games in the 1960’s and then found his niche as a coach where he coached the Under 19’s in 1970 & 71. He was Senior coach between 1972 & 76, Reserves coach in 1974 & 75, Senior coach again between 1982 & 84. He was renowned for his fearful sprays & getting the best out of every team he ever coached.

Gordon followed his coaching career with a two year stint as President in 1987 & 88 after which he was also awarded the VAFA Certificate of Merit in 1989.

The McGregor family has had a long association with the club, most recently at an official role with Cameron as Under 19’s coach a few years back. Don is a regular at the club as is Jan who without fail comes up to the club every Thursday evening as well as every game.

The club passes its best wishes to Marg, Cam, Andrew, Scott, Lisa and the entire McGregor family.

All Senior teams will be wearing black armbands this weekend in memory of Gordon, he will be greatly missed.
