The Rovers continued their preparations for the 2010 VAFA Premier B season with a 27-point victory over EFL division two side Donvale at Mentone Grammar Playing Fields on Sunday.
It was a good display by the boys for their second practice game of the year and an improvement on their first competitive game last week as the players continue to adapt to Matthew Robbins game plan. The new coach was pleased with the performance of his charges with things looking positive.
The seniors had a number of changes from last weeks game against Ocean Grove and still had several unavailabilitys primarily due to cricket grand finals. Despite going two players down to injury in the opening term, the Rovers kicked well with the wind booting nine of their twelve majors towards the eastern end.
As always the surface at the Mentone Grammar Playing Fields was superb and the Rovers are back on the Main Oval next Sunday to take on Ajax in their final practice game before the 2010 season.
HAMPTON ROVERS 3.1 8.6 8.9 12.15 (87)
DONVALE 4.4 5.6 8.10 8.12 (60)
The Reserves had a comprehensive win getting up by 107 points while the Under 19s were defeated by a strong Donvale U18 side by eight goals.
All training is now Tuesdays and Thursdays 6pm at Boss James Reserve. Numbers are looking stronger than ever this year and all players should make an effort to get to training two nights a week. Do your bit to help ensure its a successful year for the Hampton Rovers AFC in 2010.
