Pre-Season Training gets underway

2009 Pre-Season Training has got underway on a positive note with numbers pushing 40 for the first session in hot conditions on Wednesday, following Monday’s players meeting where around 60 attended.

As the Hampton Rovers prepare for the beginning of a new era in 2009 playing in VAFA B Section for the first time since 2003, there is a positive vibe around the club. The Rovers are one of the first clubs to hit the training track and existing players were joined by a number of new and returning players as the temperature hovered around the 30 mark.

On Monday, an excellent turnout of around 60 players attended the 2009 players meeting. Those in attendance heard from the 2009 coaches, all re-appointed following a successful 2008, and were outlined on the pre-season schedule which will again be run by fitness trainer Marc Stafford.

Pre-Season Training will continue Monday’s and Wednesday’s until the 17th of December where we?ll finish the year with a BBQ and drinks at the club. Training venues will vary due to the drought, however they?ll include the club, nearby parks and the beach.

The step up to B Section is a big one and we need everyone’s commitment to ensure we don?t just make up the numbers, but push for a finals position. Make sure you get along to training and encourage others down as well. New players are welcome – feel free to attend at any time or contact us for more information.

2009 will also see the introduction of a Third XVIII team providing the opportunity for players to continue playing in a slightly more relaxed environment in the VAFA Club XVIII competition. This will open up an additional 22 playing spots every Saturday.
