The Hampton Rovers continued their good early season form remaining undefeated with a 52-point victory over Mazenod at Boss James Reserve on Saturday.
The Rovers started well however found it difficult to convert their domination into scoring opportunities. Both teams were going in hard and two goals to the home side game them an 11-point lead at the first break.
A better second quarter saw Hampton kick 5 majors with Mazenod managing just the one and at half time the Rovers held a commanding 36-point lead.
After a disappointing start, Mazenod turned their form around in the second half kicking 4 goals to the Rovers 1 to reduce the home sides lead to under three goals.
With dark clouds and threatening rain above, the lights came on for the final term which saw the Rovers kicking with the wind towards the David Street end.
It was an even contest early in the last with both teams kicking goals however late in the game the Rovers showed their quality with a late flurry of goals to end up booting 8 for the term, including the goal of the game to Leigh Fletcher, who took the ball out of the middle, ran around several Mazenod players and kicked a goal from the 45 metre arc. Final score Hampton Rovers 16.12.108 defeated Mazenod 7.14.56.
Big Nick Greenwood was great up front for the Rovers kicking 5 goals while other multiple goal kickers were Mark Devereaux, Leigh Fletcher, Matt Lawrence, and Jay Ting with two each. Devereaux, Greenwood, Carr, Batt, Semmel and Burggraaff were best for the home side.
Well done to James McCarthy who played his 200th club game for the Rovers and put on another great effort in defence.
Next week the Rovers face Parkdale Vultures in the game of the day away at Gerry Green Reserve, and the following week return to Boss James Reserve for the big VAFA Rivalry Round which sees VAFA district club powerhouses Hampton Rovers and Ormond lock horns at Boss James Reserve were a massive crowd is expected to be on hand.

The Under 19s also had another win to remain undefeated. The made the long trek to take on Peninsula Old Boys and kicked 6 goals against the wind in the final term to come from behind and win by 15 points. While the Reserves led at half time but switched off in the second half to be defeated by Mazenod.
