Rovers ready for action

Hampton Rovers Amateur Football Club says it is in good shape to take its place in the VAFA’s C section in 2008.

Rovers were elevated after a fine season in which the senior and Under 19 teams played off in grand finals.

Both came up short, but with a good crop of young players and the disappointment of the defeats, the players have the motivation for  the new campaign.

Recruits include former Hampton Rovers junior and 2007 Sandringham Dragons captain Tom Curry.

Former VFA Liston Trophy champion Gary Sheldon has been re-appointed as senior coach, and Paul Curry  will look after the reserves while Anthony Quon handles the Under 19s.

Training is at Boss James Reserve (corner of David St and Bluff Rd Hampton) on Mondays and Wednesdays, from 6pm.

On the junior scene the club will be fielding teams in all age groups, from Under 9 through to Under 17, and running an Auskick program.

Registration evening was held last Friday at the club however it isn’t too late to sign up for the 2008 season, full details can be found online.

In other junior news, twenty-five Rovers players have been invited to try out for MSJFL representative teams.
