2008 Player Recruitment

The Hampton Rovers AFC is currently recruiting Senior and Under 19 players for the 2008 VAFA season. After a great 2007 season which resulted in promotion back to C Section, 2008 promises to be an exciting year for the club.

Players interested in pulling on the Green and Gold in 2008 are welcome to email the club for further details – info@hamptonrovers.com.au

The Rovers are fortunate to have some of the best facilities in the VAFA at Boss James Reserve and a great club structure. Established in 1918, the club has won 7 senior premierships (including premierships in each of the top 4 grades) and a total of 58 premierships including the Reserves, U19’s and Juniors. 2007 saw the Rovers field 19 teams: 3 in the VAFA and 16 in the MSJFL, as well as Auskick totalling almost 600 players.

2007 was the first time the Rovers had been in D section since the premiership year of 1995. Rather than dwell on the fact, the club went all-out for success, starting with the appointment of former VFL Liston Medallist Gary Sheldon as Senior Coach. Hampton finished the regular season in third position on the ladder and had the highest percentage of any team – 153.93%. The Rovers went on and recorded two big victories in the Semi Final and Preliminary Final to book a spot in the Grand Final and earn immediate promotion back to C Grade. Unfortunately things didn?t go the Rovers way in the season decider but the boys must be congratulated on a great season. The Under 19’s also had a great season resulting in a Grand Final appearance.

After achieving the main goal in 2007 of returning to C Section, the Hampton Rovers are now looking for a strong showing in 2008. Gary Sheldon has been re-appointed as senior coach for the new season and it promises to be an exciting year down at Roverland. New players are always more than welcome down to the club.

The club is pleased to announce the appointment of Paul Curry as Reserves coach and Anthony Quon as Under 19’s coach for the 2008 season.

2008 Pre-Season Training will commence on the 21st of November. Sessions will be held Monday’s and Wednesday’s and players are to meet at Boss James Reserve, Cnr David St & Bluff Rd Hampton. This will continue to the 19th of December and then resume again after the Christmas break on Monday 27th January.
