The Hampton Rovers put on a polished display at Boss James Reserve on Saturday cracking the 30 goal mark and defeating Yarra Valley by 163 points. The win sees the Rovers move up one position into third on the ladder.
Another big Rovers crowd greeted the players in perfect football conditions at Boss James Reserve on Saturday and the day got off to a good start with around 65 people in attendance at the Mothers Luncheon.
The Rovers were keen to atone for last weeks disappointing effort against Old Mentonians and they came out firing from the start kicking two quick goals. It didn?t stop there as the Rovers pushed forward and at the first break it was the home side by 31 points.
The green ?n golds stepped up a gear in the second term booting 9 goals to increase the lead to 92 points at the main break. The Rovers midfield of Leigh Fletcher and Guy Martyn with Matt Terech in ruck was doing a superb job getting the ball out of the middle. While just as good up front were Rob Alexander, Jason Zampaglione and Matt Lawrence who finished the game with 6 goals.
After posting 100 points in the first half, Hampton weren?t about to relax and they again came out firing booting a further 9 goals while not letting Yarra Valley kick their 2nd goal of the game until the 3rd quarter. At three quarter time, it was the Rovers holding a 142-point lead.
The Rovers dropped slightly in the final term and Yarra Valley were improved as they managed 3 goals of their own. But it was all the Rovers who posted another 6 and at the final siren it was the home side posting their 2nd win of the season, winning 30.17.197 to 5.4.34.
While the majority of the action was up front, a special mention must go to the backline with James McCarthy and Gerrard Woods who were both solid down back nullifying Yarra Valley when they pushed forward. Gary Carr and Luke Dallas both put in good performances for the Rovers but it was an all-round top effort by the 22 players.
The Reserves also bounced back after a loss last week, winning 16.14.110 to 7.7.49, a margin of 61 points. Best for the Rovers were Justin Ng, Chris Delosa and Adam Mason. Matthew Gray led the goal kicking with 5, Ashley Fisher kicked 3 with 2 each to Anthony Quon and Brenton Holt. While the Under 19s had a loss away to Mazenod.
Next week the Hampton Rovers travel to Bulleen Templestowe while the Under 19s have a Bye. The Rovers are back at home the following week when they host Peninsula Old Boys.
