Reserves win Grand Final

The Hampton Rovers Reserves easily defeated Ajax by 52 points in Saturday’s Grand Final at Trevor Barker Oval to become 2004 Premiers.

It has been a long time between drinks for the Reserves with the last Premiership coming 20 years ago. After two average seasons in B Section, the Super-2’s went through 2004 losing on just three occasions and finishing the year two games clear on top of the ladder.

The team was treated to a suburb pre-game speech by Mick Malthouse. His words got the blood pumping and the Rovers fired early kicking away to a handy lead in the wet conditions.

Ajax didn?t manage their first goal until the 2nd quarter, however it was all too late with the Reserves kicking a few late goals in the game to win the match by 52 points.

Final Scores: Hampton Rovers 10.7.67 defeated Ajax 2.3.15.

Best: Hanlon, Duddy, Christiansen, Boyd, Flynn, Malthouse.

Goals: Gray, Pearson, Quon, Spratt, Hanlon, Johnstone.

At Trevor Barker Oval.
