Jared Brunmeier from the United States has been training with the Essendon Football Club during January as part of the USAFL Scholarship program, and will play for the Rovers in 2004.
Jared recently graduated from college in the US from UW-La Crosse at 22 years of age. He was introduced to Australian Rules Football about two years ago while studying at La Trobe University. The game grew on him, and upon returning to the states he discovered there was a league running and subsequently played out the remainder of the season.
In 2003 Jared was chosen to play for USAs National team – the American Revolution. He also played out the season for his club, the Milwaukee Bombers. Jared said, ?A lot of the game is still new to me and there is a lot to learn. The more experience I get the more fun I have playing in the games.?
Jared was recommended to play at the Hampton Rovers AFC while in Australia, and as a result has taken up the offer. ?I am excited to work on my skills on a more consistent basis and under more structure.? He is planning to stay in Australia until at least July and possibly later.
A journal of Jareds stay in Australia can be seen on the USFOOTY website: www.usfooty.com.
Jared will need support from the Hampton Rovers AFC community while in Australia. If anyone is interested in billeting him or offering him some work, please contact Barry Bird on (w) 9291 1055, (h) 9772 7344, (e) barryb@defencehealth.com.au.
