Big win for U19’s over Mazenod

Round 9 saw the Under 19’s play Mazenod away. There was a strong wind and while it was mostly across the ground it was definitely favouring the driveway end.

We found ourselves kicking to this end in the first quarter and, despite not really teaming that well, we had a useful lead at quarter time. Strangely enough this was to be the only quarter when the end favoured by the wind was actually the scoring end.

In the second quarter we got our running game going a bit better and by the main break we were 46 points ahead.

After the break we seemed a little bit flat and Mazenod outscored us in the third quarter to give them some chance if they had a big last quarter. Fortunately we got our act back together to finish over the top of them for a 51 point victory.

As in most games this season the backline was very steady for us also providing good rebound into the forward line. Cam Christiansen and Kelly Spratt continued their good form of recent weeks and Michael Scott provided a very good marking option up forward.

This win places us in third position and if we stay focused we should be worthy finals participants.
