It’s a big occasion at Boss James Reserve this Saturday as the Hampton Rovers host arch-rivals Ormond in a special ANZAC Day clash. It’s a triple-header with the U19s opening proceedings while the Senior Women host MCC at Castlefield.
The senior men’s match headlines a big day for the club, with the traditional on-ground ANZAC Day Ceremony to be held in conjunction with the Hampton RSL prior to the game, starting at approximately 1:55pm, with the round two match getting underway at 2:15pm.
There is plenty on the line, with the two clubs again competing for the Buxton Cup, proudly supported by Buxton Sandringham and Hampton East, long-term major partners of the Rovers. The player judged best on ground will be awarded the Barnes Medal.
Ormond return to Premier C this season after earning promotion from Division 1, and are coached by former Rovers player Kyle Pinto, adding another layer to an already strong rivalry between the two clubs.
The Rovers will be looking to make a statement on home soil in what shapes as a big game, with a fresh group continuing to build under new senior coach Paul Carrigan. There is also a significant milestone to celebrate, with Josh McPherson set to play his 150th VAFA game for the club.

It’s a full day of football at Boss James Reserve, with a triple-header kicking off with the Under 19s at 9:20am against South Melbourne, followed by the Reserves at 11:40am against Ormond. The Senior Women take on MCC FC at 1:00pm at Castlefield Reserve, while the Thirds are away to Parkdale Vultures at 2:00pm. View all fixtures & results here.
Off the field, the first Home Game Luncheon of the season is set to be one of the biggest of the year, with around 120 guests expected for the ANZAC Day function. With limited seats remaining, supporters are encouraged to book quickly to avoid missing out.
With a big crowd, a traditional ceremony, and a fierce rivalry renewed, it shapes as a standout day for the Rovers both on and off the field.
