U19s defeat Marcellin

The U19’s headed out to Marcellin College at Bulleen ready for a tough and physical encounter and looking for their second win of the season.

The first quarter saw the Rovers up 3.5 to 1.1 in a willing opening quarter that saw Hugo Lay kick our first goal and Ben Marron launch and take specky of the year so far in U19’s in front of goal about 20m out, (we wish we had that one on film) unfortunately he missed the goal. First gamers for U19’s Will Kervin impressed with his first goal as did Alec (Plugger) McKenzie with his goal.

The Rovers had a bit more of an arm wrestle with Marcellin in the second quarter but the back line held up and kept the pressure on with Cameron Carmeni, Zach Mackay and Hamish Adams doing a sterling job. Marcellin had their chances, missing 5 times. Half time scores were 5.10 to 1.6. Unfortunately, we lost Pat Starcevich to a heavy knock to the left shoulder in the second quarter (causing small tear in AC joint). Goals went to Hugo Lay again and Matt Spaziani this term.

In the third term the Rovers controlled with Ben Marron hitting Liam O’Driscoll on the chest from the middle on multiple occasions resulting in 2 goals for Liam. Alec plugged his 2nd goal, Joey Wilson and Aussie King also snagged one each. Our new trainer Sophie Scott was kept busy as Lachie Fraser came off with a minute to go in the quarter having rolled his heavily strapped ankle (again).

At three quarter time we led 10.14 to 2.9

The final quarter opened with Will Kervin kicking his 2nd and Mo (Salah) Labib kicking 2 to get in on the action as well. It was a good solid 4 quarter effort from the players today. They are beginning to become a TEAM as the old and the new gel together and start to look for each other more and more each game.

Next week we are at home on the Boss at 2pm against Old Scotch, following the 3’s at 11.40am (some u19’s players also play in the 3’s each week) so get down and support the boys in the double header. It will be good to get the whole squad together at home.
