Uni Blacks too strong for Rovers

University Blacks were too strong for the Hampton Rovers on Saturday running out comprehensive winners at Boss James Reserve.

It was perfect sunny conditions at David Street for the round three encounter against the undefeated Blacks. The undermanned Rovers tried hard all day but were outclassed, going down by 12 goals. The second and third quarters proved the difference, with the Blacks kicking seven and six goals respectively to the Rovers five combined.

Ed turner was best for the Rovers, kicking four goals. Leigh Fletcher, Richard Atkins and Daniel Corp also played well.

The Rovers look forward to a number of key players coming back into the side for next week’s clash against Old Ivanhoe away.

After Round three, the Rovers sit seventh on the VAFA Premier B ladder, ahead of Marcellin, Oakleigh and St Bernards. In other results on the weekend, Beaumaris belted Old Brighton, Old Ivanhoe thrashed Marcellin, Caulfield continued their hot form downing Oakleigh and St Kevins ran out comprehensive winners over St Bernards.

The Reserves was a similar story with the visitors depth showing. Best for the Rovers were Rory Lynch, Nick Hoban and Harvey Scholes. Ash Fisher and Ben Trivett each kicked two goals.

Next week the Seniors and Reserves travel to Old Ivanhoe while the Thirds and Under 19’s are at home taking on Hawthorn and Ormond.
