It has been confirmed that all VAFA D1 Finals will be played at Trevor Barker Oval, Beach Road Sandringham in 2007. Traditionally used for C Section finals, it makes sense this year considering the teams likely to take part.
It is likely the current top 4 will stay the same with Hampton Rovers, Oakleigh, Old Mentonians and Prahran all playing in the September action. Meanwhile in C section, the current top 4 reads Rupertswood, Old Camberwell, Old Carey and Mazenod – All teams in the North/West suburbs. Previously D1 Finals had been played out that side of town at grounds such as Preston City Oval.
In D1 section, the Rovers currently sit 3rd and are one game off top spot. Only 6 points separate 1st and 4th. The Rovers have the highest percentage and face Oakleigh in the final game of the year which is shaping up as a battle for a top 2 spot.
Its a win for the big Hampton Rovers supporters base who?ll be expected to descend on Trevor Barker Oval for finals action in 2007 for the first time since 2001.
Meanwhile, the Under 19’s (U19 South) Finals will all be played at Elsternwick Park, with 3 of the 4 games, including the Grand Final, to be played on Friday evenings under lights.
