Over the past month, the Hampton Rovers Under 19s have strung together three impressive wins. Impressive for two reasons: #1 because two of the three wins have been against quality opposition in the top 4, and more so, they have played with only 19 and 20 players the past two weeks.
Injuries and travelling holidays to key players have seen four U17s help out and play their part in these important wins. Whilst percentage only separates 2nd to 4th on the ladder, its been the discipline and teamwork that has ultimately been getting them the points and in doing so, impressing the coaching staff and loyal supporters.
On Saturday, the boys played the entire 2nd half with only 17 players and at times were down to 16. Of these 16, two were playing under duress. In cold, wet and muddy conditions, this would normally be a game we could have lost, but the leadership and maturity the group is showing is excellent and should hold us in good stead for finals action later in the year.
We get two players back for this weeks match, however we look like losing another three, so we will be undermanned again, but thats not a bad thing. Most players are expected back from injury and holidays in two weeks time, until then hopefully the boys play with the same passion and desire, because we are winning on pure grit and guts.
