Rovers Community Club of the Week
The Hampton Rovers Amateur Football Club has been nominated the Round 5 TRUenergy Football Victoria Community Club of the Week for the recent Joel Day benefit function “A Good Day’s Night”.
From the Round 5 VFL Record:
The club and the local community decided to run a function to support Joel, as well as raise awareness of depression within the community. The event was titled ?a good night out? and was attended by present and former Rovers members, along
with people from the local area and other clubs, and was hosted by football legends Tim Watson and Billy Brownless. Local bands Ned Murray – White, Tony J and Glen, Datza and Stroke the Gen pumped out tunes at the function. Other highlights from the night included Billy and Tim auctioning items, including attendance at an airing of SENs Morning Glory, a table at The Footy Show, Billy telling his famous kick after the siren and kick over the silo stories, and much more.
Many organisations assisted by donating auction items and services on the night, which raised a considerable amount of money for the Day family, along with $1000 for the Beyond Blue organisation through the sale of wrist bands. This is another wonderful example of a community football club joining forces with the local community to support a member who has fallen on hard times, and a wonderful example of the generosity of people such as Billy Brownless and Tim Watson, who gave their time to assist.
