Rovers edge out Fitzroy Reds by 5 points

The Hampton Rovers returned to the winners list after two disappointing defeats with a 5 point victory over Fitzroy Reds at Boss James Reserve on Saturday.

The Rovers put in a great performance to shut down Fitzroy who have been having a great run after being promoted to C Section in 2006.

It was a tight game all day with never more than 2 goals separating the sides at each of the breaks. The home side held a 2 goal lead at the main break and were up by 10 points going into the final term.

The last quarter was another tight affair with both sides going in hard at the footy. The visiting team got within 4 points at one stage and managed 2 goals for the term while the Rovers could only manage the 1.

The Rovers held on to defeat the Reds 11.9.75 to 10.10.70. The win lifts the Rovers to 6th position (equal 4th) on the C Section ladder going into next week’s big match against St.Bedes Mentone also at Boss James Reserve.
