Rovers victorious over Paradians

The Hampton Rovers produced an impressive performance to defeat Old Paradians away at Garvey Oval on Saturday. The 3-goal victory was the first time the seniors have defeated the Bundoora club at their ground.

It was a good all-round effort by the Rovers with all players putting in 100%. Nick Greenwood once again proved invaluable upfront booting 6 goals.

The Rovers went in confident with the inclusions of Heath Tregear, Guy Martyn and Leigh Fletcher.

Hampton started the better of the two sides with a solid piece of play putting the first goal on the scoreboard in the opening minute. The Rovers kicked 4 further goals in the opening term while the home side responded with 3 late majors. At the first break, it was the Rovers by a couple.

The Rovers could have blown the game apart in the second quarter however inaccurate kicking cost the Rovers and allowed Old Paradians to draw level with a single point the difference at half time.

Rovers managed two goals in the 3rd term while four to Parade gave them a 8 point advantage at the final break.

The final term started pretty even however the Rovers soon fired up finishing the game strongly kicking 5 goals and restricting Parade to just the one. The Rovers winners 16.11.107 to 13.12.90.

Best for the Rovers were Nick Greenwood, Guy Martyn, Mark Devereaux, Paul Adams, Leigh Fletcher and Gary Carr.

Greenwood lead the goalkicking with 6 with 3 to Anthony Browne and 2 to Mark Devereaux. Singles to Cannell, Leigh Fletcher, Lawrence, Wilmott and Woods.

The win improves the Rovers record to 3-3 after 4 of the opening 6 games have been played away from home. Hampton sit in 7th position (equal 3rd) on the ladder.

The Reserves started well but fell away in the second half to go down by 10 goals. Mitchell, Wheeler and Schafer were best for the Rovers while Mitchell, Morecroft and Terech kicked a goal each. The Under 19’s had a bye.

After two consecutive away games, the Hampton Rovers return to Boss James Reserve next Saturday when they take on arch rivals Ajax in a big game. This fixture traditionally draws a large crowd to David Street so make sure you?re there for all the action.
