Therry take points in final game

Hampton Rovers were defeated by Therry Penola on Saturday in the final round of the 2004 home and away season.

While the Rovers chances of playing in the finals had all but gone following last week’s defeat, Therry had plenty to play for as a win would guarantee they remain in C Section for the 2005 season.

The match kicked off in perfect conditions at Boss James Reserve in front of a good crowd. Therry opened the scoring at the David Street end early in the game, Rovers quickly replied with a soccer-like goal from Kelly Spratt.

Therry got away to a handy lead and didn’t let the Rovers back in the game.

It became apparent that Therry simply wanted the win more than the home side and consequently ran out eventual winners by 40 points.

Congratulations to Stephen Anderson who played his 400th game for the Hampton Rovers – a true club champion.

Final Scores: Hampton Rovers 7.9.51 Therry Penola 13.13.91

Best for the Rovers were Lawrence, Burggraaff, Carr & Anderson while Greenwood kicked 2 goals with singles to Anderson, Burggraaff, Davey, Power & Spratt.

The Reserves won their match to remain two games clear on top of the ladder. They now take on Monash Blues next Saturday in the 2nd Semi Final at Trevor Barker Oval from 11:30am.
