Under 9 East Lightning Premiers

After going through the home and away season undefeated, Hampton Rovers’ Under 9 East team won last Sunday’s Lightning Premiership played at King George Reserve.

Hampton Rovers won all four matches in the lead up to the Grand Final. Rovers had three captains for the big match: Matt Hooy, Luke Verma and Angus Brayshaw.

Cheltenham won the toss and kicked with the wind. They kicked their 3 points in this quarter and could have easily kicked three goals however one behind was touched on the line and the other hit the post.

Hampton attacked but were repelled on numerous occasions and did not score.

In the second half, Hampton appeared to have run out of legs with a half back line that would not let up. The never say die spirit of the Rovers took over.  In the last 6 minutes, Hampton peppered the goals and it was when twinkle toes Massey side-stepped three opponents and kicked truly to put the Rovers in front. Hampton continued to attack and scored another 3 points. Rovers formed a wall at the half forward line and kept pushing the ball forward. The final siren went when Hampton appeared to score again.

Tim Jones was proud of all 24 players for the year and it was there desire and determination that have made them a strong and tough outfit that never said die.
