Rovers two games out

Hampton Rovers hopes of making the VAFA C Section finals were set back with a seven point loss to fourth placed Parkdale Vultures on Saturday. With 13 regulars out of the side, the Rovers fielded one of their youngest senior line-ups in years.

In a mid-season finals qualifier at Boss James Reserve, the ground was in good condition for the middle of winter but wind made the game scrappy. A good crowd was in attendance to see 4th take on 5th.

The Rovers were unable to break clear of the Vultures negative play in the first term and managed three goals with the assistance of a five goal wind to the David Street end.

Midfielder Steve Anderson was strong from the start and he collected 22 possessions for the match and two goals.

Parkdale had 11 scoring shots in the second term but managed to convert only three.

Rovers youngsters mark Devereaux and James Prantzos worked hard to manufacture two important goals.  They finished the game with 29 possessions each.

At three quarter time the Rovers held a 13 point lead, but the breeze picked up and the Vultures booted four unanswered goals to leave the Hampton side two wins out of the four.

This week Hampton Rovers travels to bottom placed Glen Eira, which hasn?t won a game and hopes to have three senior players back.

Rovers 3.0, 5.1, 8.2, 9.3 (57) lost to Parkdale Vultures 0.1, 3.9, 4.13, 8.16 (64)

Goals: Anderson 2, Brudar, Carr, Devereaux, Fletcher, Hanloln, McCarthy, Moseby.

Best: Anderson, Hanlon, Prantzos, Adams, Devereaux, McCarthy.

Kicking against the strong win in the final quarter, the Reserves hung on to win their game by 1 point. They currently sit in 2nd position, with Ajax on top, only by percentage. Meanwhile the Under 19’s lost to 4th-placed Emmaus St.Leos.
