2003 Under 10 West Report

This year the team played 13 rounds and ended up with 4 mighty wins. The season started well with 2 wins but then the going got harder with games against more difficult opposition.

The most exciting games came in Round 6 with a one point win against Ajax by holding on to a slim lead against a strong wind in the last quarter and in Round 9 which was a night match against Mordi-Braeside where the Rovers got up by 5 points by kicking the last goal of the match.

In the last two games of the season the team was lifted by an international recruit, Alexei LaRue from Colorado, who showed great courage and left Australia with memories of his first game of Aussie Rules and unfortunately a broken collarbone as well.

The team entered the Lightning Premiership full of hope as the 4th ranked team, and battled hard but missed the finals after one win and two losses in the preliminary games.

All the players showed a lot of improvement through the year, consolidating as a team under the coach’s complex game plan and extremely well supported by their enthusiastic parents and siblings.
