Rovers embarrassed at home

On Saturday at Boss James Oval in what can only be described as a football lesson, an embarrassment to the players and a real downer for the club the Rovers went down to a rampant North Old Boys by 20 Goals.

At the half time break when trailing by 8 Goals coach Norm Goss’s plea to the players to stand up and support each other was completely ignored and to the dismay of all present the 2nd half turned into a replica of the 1st as the much improved Old Boys continued on their merry unchecked way. This game could be classified as the Rovers worst result in the last 10 years and at this stage of the season only a miracle will save them from relegation to C Grade.

The only Rovers players to show any form were the usual handful of battlers in Ben Artz, Paul Adams, Garry Carr and Campbell McKellar. After the game all Rovers players held a private meeting to review their poor showing and hopefully to pledge allegiance to one another for the balance of the season.

Next weeks game is against St.Bedes Mentone at Mentone Reserve. It is set to be an exciting game, with the Rovers getting up by 1 point in their last meeting.

The Hampton Rovers need your support for the remainder of the 2003 season. A club providing the best facilities in the league for both players and supporters cannot survive without the support of its members. The club’s major function for the year, Auction Night, is to be held next Saturday July 5th at Boss James Reserve. It is hoped the Auction Night will raise sufficient funds to meet several large expenses for both the Senior and Junior sections of the club. Please make a special effort to attend.
