Under 19’s Match Report Vs Werribee

Round 8 saw the Under 19 side hosting second placed Werribee. The home side found themselves kicking into a fierce wind in the first quarter and, with Werribee playing a good running game, Rovers failed to score to be 37 points down at quarter time.

Rovers were again slow out of the blocks in the second quarter and each side managed four goals. Werribee’s ability to score into the wind during this quarter was probably the difference between the two sides.

The Rovers had a good third quarter and were still a rough chance of coming home with the wind in the last quarter however unfortunately Werribee’s first quarter performance set-up a margin too big to pull back.

Cam Christiansen, Garry Giasoumi and Brenton Henry battled hard all day while Cain Malthouse was again good in the ruck but we have to accept that we cannot give any team a head start let alone sides that are in the four. We have now lost two in a row as a result of this, and had we won these, we would now be second rather than fourth.

Let’s hope that after the break we have a four quarter focus to give ourselves a chance at finals action.
