Rovers win worth 50 year wait

Hampton Rovers defeated Ormond on their home ground for the first time in 50 years on Saturday.  The game was a close encounter in a low scoring affair with Ormond hanging on to a slender lead for the first three quarters.

Rovers backline players, Gary Carr, Justin Ng, and Gerard Woods again performed exceptionally with onballers Anthony Browne Tim Wilmott and Drew Anderson eventually wearing down the opposition and taking the lead at the twenty minute mark of the last quarter.

Game score now stands at two wins and one loss and with a home game against Old Paradians next week, another victory would give the Rovers a convincing start to their 2002 ambitions.

Goals: Power 3, Davey, Browne, S. Anderson, Wilmott, Carr, Martyn.
Best: Woods, Carr, Browne, Wilmott, Ng, D. Anderson.

In other matches, the Reserves and Under 19’s also had wins. This is the first time the Rovers have defeated all 3 Ormond senior sides on the same day. And the Club XVIII side lost their match vs Old Brighton. Next week, the Rovers take on Old Paradians at Boss James Reserve.
