One half not enough as Rovers go missing

As players headed for the rooms of Saturday’s VAFA B Section clash at the McKinnon Reserve, it seemed a case of how far Hampton Rovers.

The Old Haileybury defence had no answers to Michael Davey at full forward, where the spearhead had piled on six goals.

The Rovers midfield was also running riot and only two goals late in the second term allowed the home side to close within 20 points at the break.

But in a dramatic turnaround, it was as if the sides changes jumpers at half-time. Old Haileybury held the Rovers goalless as their superior ruckwork began to pay dividends.

After adding six unanswered goals for the term, the home side never looked threatened as it matches its output down the stretch to win by 43 points. It represented a 12-goal to one second half.

With several key players set to return from injury this week, Norm Goss’ side will be hoping to bounce back in Saturday’s home clash with Mazenod Old Collegians this week.

The Reserves were also defeated by Old Haileybury in their match. However the other two senior sides both had wins, the Under 19’s won their 4th match with a win over Werribbee, and the Club XVIII side defeated St.Leos for their 2nd win of the season.
