Old Brighton outclass Rovers

Posted on

On Saturday the Hampton Rovers were convincingly defeated by Old Brighton Grammarians to the tune of nearly 16 goals at Boss James Reserve.

Rovers were particularly disappointing as they refused to man up and chase the opposition who led at every break with their last quarter burst of 7 goals to 1 been totally destructive.

After the game Rovers coach Norm Goss accused all players for their lack of commitment over four quarters and promised some late nights of consultation and hard training to occur this week.

Throughout the game the Grammarians played the Rovers ground to perfection winning centre clearances inside 50m attacks and tackles by embarrassing large margins.

The Rovers backline was bombarded all day and the winning margin would have been much higher except for the efforts of Wilmott and Zampaglione with onballers McKellar and Barker been the only other real contenders.

This is the forth straight loss for the Rovers who are in the middle of a form slump. The side will be hoping to regain their early season form which saw them win three of their opening four matches when they take on top of the table Old Melburnians at Junction Oval Saturday week (June 15). No games are scheduled this coming weekend due to the VAFA representative game against South Australia.
