On Saturday at Boss James Reserve the Rovers were literally thrashed by Premiership favourites Old Melburnians to the tune of 77 points in front of the biggest home crowd for the season.
Most Rovers were clearly outpointed by their Old Melburnian counterparts as they turned the match into a practice exercise whilst tuning their skills for the B grade flag assault, their last quarter resulting in 9 goals and winning the game for them.
Once again it was left to the same familiar Rover names of Anthony Browne, Jason Zampaglione and Michael Fletcher to lead by example and show some restraint to the too frequent Old Boy attacks. The match had many highlights including screamers from Jason Zampaglione and Anthony Browne.
It was a disappointing 2002 season for the Rovers winning only 6 games but thanks to Old Brighton Grammarians defeating Ormond the Rovers faithful can look forward to another year in B grade. The club must now set its eyes on recruiting several key players to make any improvement in this strong and competitive level.
FINAL SCORE: Old Melburnians 20.16.136 defeated Rovers 10.9.69.
GOALKICKERS: Power 3, S.Anderson, Browne, M.Fletcher, M.McKeller, Martyn, S.Rodder, Zampaglione.
