Rovers up by 4 points at half time, outscored by 8 goals to 1 in the second half. Yes, a too familiar story as they were downed by Old Haileybury to the tune of 40 points at Elsternwick Park on Saturday.
Again, there was no denying the Rovers endeavour in the opening half as they fought courageously to avoid relegation and revenge the first round thrashing by the Old Boys.
The Rovers again confronted by several changes due to injuries tackled the opposition head on but in the long run were not physically equipped to counter Haileyburys talls and onballers who easily repelled any second half Rovers attacks to set up another easy victory.
It was difficult to find any real winning Rovers throughout the four quarters but again Anthony Browne, Gino Zampaglione and Drew Anderson ran themselves ragged as they valiantly tried to spark some fire into the balance of the team. And playing in his first senior match for the Rovers, U17 and U19 player James McCarthy put in a good performance.
The Rovers now languish in second last position with only 4 wins for the season and must win at least 2 of the remaining 4 contests to remain in B Grade. Next Saturday is again an away game against Mazenod.
FINAL SCORE: Old Haileybury 13.13 d Rovers 6.15
GOALS: Power 3 S.Anderson, Barker and Wilkinson
BEST: Browne, D.Anderson, Zampaglione, Martyn, Carr, McCarthy
