Pre-Season done, bring on round one

The Rovers wrapped up the pre-season with a win over Mazenod in the final practice match while the 2016 season was officially launched at Hotel Brighton on Sunday where the leadership grouped announced.

In perfect conditions on Saturday, a young Hampton Rovers senior outfit put on a good showing in front of a strong crowd in a rare home practice game at Boss James Reserve. Eight U19 players were in the senior squad and in a good tune-up for the season-proper, the Rovers ran out winners 12.5 (77) to Mazenod 6.8 (44).

The younger brigade put on a good showing, and with some senior players to return, the boys are looking forward to round one this Saturday when the Rovers kick-off the 2016 VAFA Premier B season against local rivals Parkdale Vultures at Boss James Reserve. The Reserves and Under 19s also had a good run but went down to Mazenod in their final practice games prior to the new season kicking-off. The U19s face Ormond this Saturday, also at home, commencing at 9:20am – the first of a big triple-header to get the 2016 season underway.

The Hampton Rovers 2016 Season Launch was held on Sunday at Hotel Brighton and a good crew was on hand to bring in the new season.

New senior coach Owen Lalor announced the 2016 leadership group with Leigh Fletcher and Daniel Captain announced as co-captains again the year. Four others make up the leadership group: Sam Clements, Adam McNeil, Christian Carnovale and Nick Jewell.

As well as Owie, new President Steve Anderson spoke with optimism of the year ahead for the club while John Cesario spoke about the year ahead for the Under 19s, and Corpy addressed the crowd on behalf of the leadership group.

It was a great afternoon and a positive atmosphere ahead of round one this Saturday. Training continues Tuesday and Thursday with the first selection night of the year following Training on Thursday – we welcome all supporters along to Boss James Reserve as the teams are announced for the season-openers at the Boss on Saturday.
