Steve Anderson was officially announced as the new Senior President of the Hampton Rovers Football Club at Monday’s 86th Annual General Meeting of the Club.
Following three most-successful years under Matthew Gray in which the Club has lifted to another level leaving a great legacy, Ando is looking forward to filling the big shoes of his predecessor.
“To be accepted as president of the Hampton Rovers Football Club is a very proud moment for me and my family. I’m very keen and excited to get in to the role to start working with all the great people I’ve met over my time here.
The club – both Junior and Senior – is in one of the best eras I have seen in my history and involvement here. I’m sure most reading this have met me, however my style is very approachable and I love chatting about the club” Steve told hamptonrovers.com.au.
In his final address to members, Matthew Gray thanked everyone for their support over the past three years and praised the appointment of Steve, confident he can lift the bar even further and steer the club to the Premier section of the VAFA. Mitzi will continue to be involved at the club, focusing on continuing the successful partnership with the Sandringham Zebras Football Club.
The Anderson name is synonymous with the Hampton Rovers Football Club and a glance at the Life Members list and various honour boards around the clubrooms validating this. Steve, a grandson of the famous Robert Cave, first played junior footy at the Rovers in 1982 and has won two senior B&Fs including the Premiership year of 1995 – 20 years on he’s still playing. He has captained the club for three years and represented the Big V. In all, Ando has played a massive 463 games for the green & gold.
On a professional front, Stephen holds a Senior Management role at Coca-Cola Amatil, where he has worked for over 15 years. Commercial relations, people management and strong processes are Stephen’s areas of expertise, all of which he will bring with his role as Senior President. Married to Maddie, together they have four children.
Also at Monday’s AGM, Steve Wigley was re-appointed Junior President for his second year in charge following a successful 2015 in which the club won the best conduced club award in the SMJFL and also collected two premierships. A focus in 2016 is to increase player numbers and re-introduce girls footy at the club.
