Camberwell stun Under 19’s

Round 11 had the Under 19’s travelling out to Camberwell for a game that had become very important given Old Melbournians loss the previous week.

We kicked down the hill (?) in the first quarter and had most of the play but failed to put a gap in the scores that we could have and went to the first break holding a slim lead.

The second quarter saw us start well but again we failed to capitalise on having most of the play and at the main break the scores were level. A fair indication of the comparative amounts of play was that we were disappointed with this while Old Camberwell was rapt to be in the match.

We had a lot of the ball early in the third quarter but still couldn’t capitalise and were well down at three quarter time.

Even though the breeze sprang up to our advantage we had left ourselves too much to do and made little headway to finish up being beaten quite comfortably.

Leigh Cave was a strong presence around the ground all day, Julian Chiarizia and Yuta Kobayashi provided good run and Michael Scott with 6 goals gave us a good target up forward. Matt Ellis continued his very consistent form in defence but we had few players who did themselves justice.

It’s important we put together a good performance this week and prove that we deserve a spot in the finals because this effort left us looking like pretenders not contenders.
