Vics best in west

The VAFA humiliated the West Australian amateurs at Subiaco on Sunday with a 173-point thrashing.

The hapless WAAFL scored just three points for the match, as the talent-laden VAFA powered to victory, 27.14 (176) to 0.3 (3).

Former AFL players dominated, with ex-Collingwood defender Carl Steinfort and former Sydney Swans wingman John Stevens damaging.

Former Geelong wingman Paul Corrigan and Old Salesians forward Luke Hawkins were the best of the Victorians, Hawkins providing a highlight when he nailed a goal from 55m out moments before the halftime siren.

VAFA general manager Brett Connell said the Victorians’ skill and fitness were never challenged by the Westerners.

“There wasn’t one VAFA player who didn’t play a brilliant game. When they (the WAAFA players) got the ball they moved it well, but they just didn’t have it much,” he said.
