Hampton Rovers will field a team in the new VAFA Women’s Football competition in 2017 and the club is now looking for prospective players and officials as we head into this exciting new era.
Interest in women’s football is going through the roof at the moment, highlighted by the recent AFL Women’s exhibition game, while the new AFL Women’s League will kick-off in February. The introduction of women’s teams in the VAFA is one of the association’s most significant moves in its 125 year history. The Rovers look forward to embracing it.
The inaugural VAFA Women’s season is expected to commence on April 9, a week before their male counterparts. 2017 will be run as a development league, with a focus on participation, expanding to a premier league the following year.
The club is seeking expressions of interest for our inaugural women’s team – players, coaches, officials including team manager, trainers and volunteers. Please register at www.hamptonrovers.com.au/womens or email email@example.com
An Information Night will be held on Wednesday 5th October at Boss James Reserve and we welcome everyone to come along. Details >
Matches will be played with the same rules as any VAFA match. Exact details including when games will be played are yet to be determined, however there is the potential for night matches at either Boss James or Castlefield Reserve.
The VAFA expects 15 teams to participate in the first year, expanding to 25 or more in 2018.
2017 will also see the return of junior girls footy to the Hampton Rovers Football Club with up to three junior teams expected to line-up. The club intends on fielding Under 10s, Under 12s and Under 14s next year. Registrations will open in November and more info can be found on the women’s page.
This is an exciting new era for the Hampton Rovers Football Club and we encourage you to be a part of it.
